Kim Atchley has been a freelance writer for the last ten years. She served as a columnist and regular feature writer for the Spartanburg Herald Journal and wrote for The County Line News, Upstate Woman, Hometown News, and Prime Years Newsmagazine. She also worked in a freelance capacity with the communications offices of Spartanburg Community College and Converse College . While continuing to work on books, Kim is also working with Hollywild Animal Park (www.hollywild.com) as their press coordinator.
Kim is a member of the National Federation of Presswomen, and currently serves as president of Media Women of South Carolina (MWSC) ; She was named the 2009 Communicator of Achievement by the MWSC and is looking forward to presenting a session at the 2013 NFPW conference in Salt Lake City in August 2013.
Kim and her husband, Ryan, have three children ages twenty-three, sixteen, and eleven. Kim's mother, who lived with the Atchleys passed away in November 2008, as result of complications from surgery for a second cancer. She had been a two year survivor from Lymphoma before her colon cancer was diagnosed. Kim’s father died in 2006 at age eighty-one after a four-year battle with recurring bladder cancer. Along with raising her children, Kim has considered the opportunity to care for her parents one of the greatest challenges and blessings in her life.
Kim is a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg , SC where she teaches Mission Friends programs and has been active with several committees.
